Many visitors to Turkey have made the common mistake of buying this carton of liquid thinking it is milk.
To confuse even more, it can have a picture of a cow on it and mentions 100% and it is usually with the milk.
Milk is Sut in Turkish. It is commonly sold as UHT, but fresh milk is becoming more available in the supermarkets.
Ayran is in fact a mix of yogurt, water and salt. This does nit go well with a cup of tea or coffee. However, it is a very refreshing drink.
