Merry Christmas & Happy New Year

Olive season

Image
Nothing like getting the family together, for climbing a tree on a sunny day with a chill in the wind. You can see all around Milas people climbing trees with long sticks. The sound of the thwack thwack as the sticks   knock the olives to the tarpauline covered ground.

Time for olives

Photos taken in our garden overlooking Milas. We picked some olive today, and the family will be over the weekend to help with the rest. A time consuming job can tell you.

No door sill rain deflector in Turkey

Image
If you have a property in Turkey, you may well be used to having a puddle of water by the front door after a downpour of rain. This can lead to damage to any woodwork or a wet rug or door mat. It is also common to have plasterwork damage on either side of the door. The problem is that the steel security doors are designed for security, but the bottom of the door is missing any protection from rain when it runs down the door. In the UK we have rain deflectors at the bottom, which effectively keeps the water away from where the door meets the sill. So, I have fashioned a rain excluder that will prevent the rain from running down the door and into the house. I have used an aluminium floor beading on the threshold, with a profile attached to the door. The profile deflects the rain over the beading. Job done.

Wildlife shots

I am sure many will not like spider photos, but when I saw a spider this big, I thought it worth a photo. This was as big as my hand not counting my fingers. Probably the biggest spider I have seen. Apparently it is not dangerous although it has venom and anyone receiving a bite should always seak medical attention.

Dear Flamingo Country Club Homeowners, We would like to kindly inform you that there will be electric cut due to circuit maintenance work by AYDEM tomorrow, 13.11.2013, around this area including Flamingo Country Club Site between the hours 09:00 -16:00.  Although we have had no confirmation of this, this power outage will likely effect Turquoise and Royal Heights Resorts also.

A Boat Trip from Gumbet / Bodrum

Image
A review from a guest staying at Flamingo Country Club The boat is located in Bodrum harbour (second bay) and was in great condition, was able to cope with 18 people very easily. We were provided with lunch (included in the boat hire price), had a bus pick up from the Flamingo resort and were returned there afterwards (price for transport charged separately). Our boat trip lasted from 11 am until 5 pm and was excellent. We made 5 stops along the way, were fortunate to have Mark (owner) on board who was a great host. Mark is Turkish , grew up in Australia and now bases himself out of Bodrum, Turkey (4-5 months); Amsterdam (3 months) and Los Angeles( 3 months) a year. I recommend him and his boat Co very highly (he has 2 boats and is looking to acquire another one). Total cost for the boat hire for the day was Euro 550. We paid a bit extra as we stayed longer on the boat. Drinks were provided on board and we payed separately for these http://www.theoutbackbar.com/boattrips.htm

Owner feedback / Idealworld self promotion

Hi Dave/Simon, Can a thank you for a high standard of service provided during my transition of management company to Ideal World.  Since purchase of property in 2008 and residing away from Turkey, owning a property has just come with frustration and disappointment until now.  Though being with Ideal ideal World for a short period of time, only for the first time I feel comfortable and reassured that my property is within great hands. I have constantly been seeking advice and prompting questions which have been responded in a friendly and timely manner.  For this a would like to pass a very warmth felt thank you to the Ideal World team for all your help and support during this transition.

God complex - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

A certain company in Bodrum seems to be effected by the God complex. God complex From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia A god complex is an unshakable belief characterized by consistently inflated feelings of personal ability, privilege, or infallibility. Forget those long queues at the airport for the visa. Get your visa online before you travel. It could save you hours. e-Visa - Republic of Turkey Electronic Visa Application System

Weather - June around the corner

Image
21degrees is nice a warm for 1.30am. A pleasant temperature, but maybe a little to warm for some who like a cool room when sleeping. Leaving the windows open helps but without a mosquito screen, you may regret it.

24 hour Doctor at Turquoise

Image
There is a 24 hour doctor at Turquoise resort, so this would be handy for those staying at Flamingo Country Club and Royal Heights. Some of the common ailments while on holiday include ear infections and stomach bugs. While the local chemists cater for most problems, having a local doctor is essential for anything from those minor issues that can ruin a holiday to anything more serious. The nearest hospitals are aT Milas  and Bodrum, with an ambulance on call at Guvercinlik.

The Royal Heights restaurant is open for business.

Image
Reservation for the Royal Heights restaurant: 0530 342 9858 This is also the code for the wifi. There is a shuttle bus available from the other resorts and a pick up service, door to door.

Sabotage at FCC

Image
When properties are cleaned and ready for guests obviously the electric and water supply are on so the guests just turn up and start their holiday. There are those at FCC that do not want this to happen. A young family called me at 11pm last night to let me know they had no water. On turning up at the apartment, I found that the valve tap handle had been removed and the shaft round off so it could not be turned on. Luckily I had a wrench that could gain a grip to turn the water back on or the family with a baby and a toddler would have been without water. This is obviously criminal damage and we hope this is an isolated incident or the police will need to be informed.

Midtown Shopping Centre - Bodrum

Image
Tucked away along the Bodrum Turgutreis road is Midtown. You cannot gauge it's size from the main road. It's neighbours are Kipa, Metro and Baumax to name a few. It is a huge shopping centre with nothing missing. Forget Oasis, this has a cineplex, children's play area, multiply food and clothes outlets. Well worth a visit, or even a day out.
